Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Environmental issues such as deforestation, improper waste management, and desertification have become pressing concerns in Dutse LGA, Jigawa State. Public relations (PR) is increasingly recognized as a critical tool in fostering environmental awareness and driving behavioral change among community members. PR campaigns employ various communication strategies, including media advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and community mobilization, to address environmental challenges. In Dutse, PR practitioners collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, and local leaders to create awareness about the importance of sustainable practices (Abdullahi et al., 2024). This study explores the effectiveness of PR in addressing these issues and promoting environmental stewardship.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite efforts to promote environmental awareness in Dutse LGA, environmental degradation persists. Factors such as inadequate communication strategies, limited stakeholder involvement, and cultural barriers have hindered the success of campaigns. This study investigates how PR strategies can be optimized to enhance environmental awareness and encourage sustainable practices in Dutse LGA.
